Dear Saints in Christ, members of His body,

Grace, mercy, and peace be to you from God the Father, and from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

After many months of discussion, exploration, and most importantly prayer, the members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Sunnyvale and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Santa Clara gathered on Sunday, June 26th to decide the future direction of our partnership together in ministry. Through guidance from the CNH District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, the leadership of Circuit 18, LINC Bay Area, through whom the Holy Spirit has worked, our congregation has decided to proceed by merging into one, new congregation, and to engage in the planting of a new congregation on one of the campuses (known as Option C).

We understand that this news may be upsetting for some, but we are filled with hope for this new direction and renewed energy for God’s Mission in the Silicon Valley.

There are many things to discover, and much work to be done over the next several months to make this decision a reality. The current leadership of both churches will be working together to do much of the detailed behind-the-scenes work with the help of CNH District leadership and will update you as new information and details arise.

In the meantime, we continue to ask for your prayers as God leads and guides us on this new journey. Our prayer for you is that you would be filled with the confidence of the Gospel and the peace that the Holy Spirit brings as we do the diligent work of merging our congregations for the purpose of Gospel impact in our communities.

We praise God for His continued faithfulness to the members of His church, both at St. Mark and Resurrection, and we look ahead with hope to the future of our joint ministry in the Silicon Valley.

As we march forward together, united by the Gospel, we pray that you remember the words of Lamentation 3:21-24,

21 But this I call to mind,
    and therefore I have hope:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
  “therefore I will hope in him.”

-Lamentations 3:21-24-

To God be the Glory!

In the steadfast love of Jesus,
